Love love love these new pants from Victoria's Secret: they are wool, heather-grey, and the comfiest things on the planet. Will be wearing the heck out of them this fall. Also, I am kind of obsessed with the idea of socks seamlessly blending into trousers. Hmm...

It's Fashion Week once again! This is always a crazy, chaotic week for me - between work and shows, there's a lot of running around, often in wobbly shoes.

I am extremely excited for tonight's event: IFB's Dress Up Soiree, hosted by the illustrious Jennine Tam. I broke out some fresh new duds especially for the occasion.

How great are these ombre leggings? They are made by parkvogel, a design team specializing in comfy, organic knitwear. These babies feel as good as they look!

Had a very nice weekend playing Dungeons & Dragons, hanging with friends on roofs, playing Rock Band and doing some desperately needed yard work. And when I say desperately, I mean DESPERATELY. Me and Fiance Kaboom extracted the following items from our backyard:

• four 50lb. bags of shrubbery
• 2 giant screens (from doors?)
• a broken table
• an old ladder
• a RUG?!

The old tenants had apparently been very busy, indeed. Due to the excessive rain we've been getting, it's been virtually impossible to do any lawn care for some time. As a result, the backyard had become a veritable jungle, teaming with all sorts of strange, exotic fauna over 2 feet in height (I am really kicking myself for not nabbing a photo). There was so much shrubbery, it broke the weed whacker and defeated the manual lawnmower, forcing FK and myself to use the only other weapon in our arsenal: a machete. Yes, as in MACHETE. Given to us by a friend as a souvenir from Benin, Africa. We usually keep it in a convenient place in case the zombies come, but the backyard took priority.

Top: Gadzooks (defunct); Cardigan: Etsy; Skirt: H&M; Shoes: Frye; Prayer Beads: eBay

Like the shoes? They're made by Frye, and are my first clogs. And yes, I believe my hippy certificate is on its way to me in the mail. I really like them, they are quite comfy, but I have discovered one rather awkward result of wearing clogs: inevitable squishy noises. It sounds a little like my feet have gas.

Bet you didn't expect to read THAT today.

Anyhoo, what was the best part of your weekend?

I almost never wear jeans in the summer. But it's sooo rainy, that they are still a major component of my wardrobe. Same goes with the boots - though there is something nice about it being cool enough to still wear some of my favorite seasonal duds.

I have been trying to come up with ways not to feel too grumpy about the weather. I believe an exorbitant umbrella purchase may be in order.

My favorite part of this outfit is definitely the skirt and the shoes. I thrifted the skirt a few weeks ago, it fit perfectly, and still had it's tags. It's this mock-houndstooth pattern I find just too wonderful: I hereby dub it, "puppy-tooth."

Also, I am a big fan of these new sandals. These are my, "I can't afford the Ann Demeulemeester's I am in love with because I am getting married and still need to eat" shoe. I got them from Pixie Market, and they are so similar in style to my beloved AD's, but for a teeny fraction of the price. I may be able to do without the high-heeled version. MAY.

Hi! Did you know that August 29 is only 75 days away? I do - and I can feel each one of them PRESSING on my skull. Yeah, the wedding is right around the corner, or anatomically speaking, jammed somewhere between my stomach and my throat. There is still soooo much to do, and it's really sinking in with me and Fiance Kaboom just how much we have to get done. However, this weekend we made some lists and plans, so hopefully we'll make some real progress in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the weather on the east continues to be baffling. It's unseasonably cool, and I've heard rumors it was hailing in New Jersey yesterday. I am anticipating a plague of locusts, maybe a tornado or two before things settle down. All this crummy weather has meant my beach trips are on indefinite hold, which is pretty darn disappointing.

However, one great thing about the weird weather is it is not unbelievably hot in NYC, as is often the case this time of year, which allows one to break out those great "in-between" pieces - you know, those things too warm for summer, but too cold for winter. I have been piling on the light sweaters and cardigans in anticipation of the chillier spring days, as exemplified in this outfit. It's a rather nice feeling to do this: you feel bundled like you would in the winter, yet without feeling frigid or underdressed.

Tank: Target; Top: Free People; Cardigan: Etsy; Slacks: Zara; Shoes: Zara; Necklace: Laura Burnham

This was also the first time I got to rock these harem slacks I got from Zara. I picked them up during the winter, but it was far too chilly to wear them at the time. They are satin, and feel like warm water is sliding down my legs all day. It's too wonderful.

Tank: Target; Top: Target; Cardigan: Acrobat; Pants: Comme de Garcons for H&M; Boots: Zara; Belt: eBay

Wore this out to see a play at NYU called, "Where's Barbie's Vagina?" - it was a great piece about women and their perception of themselves. Yeah, I know - I'm wearing this cardigan into extinction. That's just how I roll - I'm the kind of person who will eat nothing but ice cream one week, nothing but sushi another - I go on kicks. And it's so comfortable, I find myself drawn back to it very often. Also, the deary weather we have been experiencing drives me into slouchy, relaxed outfits - my own personal impersonation of a raincloud.

This weekend Fiance Kaboom! and myself headed home bound. We took the parents to a slightly belated Mother's Day dinner. Mama Rosa and I both got an entire lobster, which included the mandatory bib - I don't care how necessary it is, there's no way I can feel dignified in a bib. My mom broke her foot last week, so there was much hobbling and wobbling, and she's toughing it out like a champ. Sunday we visited my grandmom, and then went on a brief tour through the new parts they have finished adding to the Cherry Hill Mall. It is a strange and surreal experience when your hometown is being transformed into a "premier shopping destination" - suffice to say, me and FK felt rather disoriented and distressed at the end of it.

Ring shopping was a success! In three weeks, Fiance Kaboom! and I will have our wedding bands. I have been somewhat out of sorts though, because the jeweler needed to borrow my engagement ring. I wear it so much that I feel a little odd not wearing it, and keep on startling myself when I notice it's gone, and for a moment think I have lost it. The jeweler assures me I'll have it back Friday - but in the meantime, this means I'm a free woman again - right?

Tank: Gadzooks; Top: Thrifted Necessary Objects; Cardigan: Acrobat; Skirt: Target; Shoes: Target; Necklaces: Japan & Laura Burnham; Watch: Bulova

I picked up this skirt this weekend at the local Target. I love maxi skirts, and this one is made of a wonderful light cotton fabric. It will be ideal to wear to the beach, or on those scorching days in the tree-less city.

I also just got back from the Yigel Azrouel sample sale today - sadly, the place was already pretty picked apart only a few hours in. I really wanted one of his circle-overlay boleros, but unfortunately they only had one left that was way too large on me. Oh, well, with wedding band purchases it's probably a blessing, as I shall need to save the moneys...

Dress: H&M; Cardigan: Acrobat; Slip: Mom; Leggings: Pixie Market; Boots: Zara; Necklaces: Kenneth J Lane and Laura Burnham; Watch: Bulova

I wore this little ensemble out for a night on the town with some extremely radical dames Friday night: Kris, Jazzy & Gala, to be precise. It was a very fun evening, kicked off with a trip to a cupcake bar, then back to Gala's pad for some tall boys and chit-chat as we waited for Jazzy to turn legal.

Once midnight came around, Jazzy quit being a pumpkin and turned 21! To celebrate, we headed to a favorite local bar of Jazzy's, drank sangria laden with maraschino cherries, played clever word games, chatted it up and had an all-around bang-up of a night.

The cardigan is one of my recent acquisitions from a label called Acrobat. I think this is my new favorite clothing brand, as everything I have gotten from them has been fantastic - excellent clean design in delectable cozy fabrics.

Me and Fiance Kaboom! are going wedding band shopping tonight - I am a little nervous, as our tastes tend to differ in terms of adornment (I like it, he doesn't). O well, wish us luck!

Raaaaaaiiin. There's a lot of it all over the city. The last 3 days have been a wet mess.

It's also tricky getting dressed when it's all mucky outside. Since a large part of my commute is outside, certain shoes and pieces of clothing are straight out. As such, I have a few pieces that have come to be my "old reliables" when the weather gets mucky - these shoes are one of them. They're plastic, open-toed and adorable, so they are impervious to water, allow my wet feet to dry skank-free, and still succeed as looking cute as hell, regardless of the weather.

Top: H&M, Cardigan: Charlotte Russe, Pants: Comme de Garcons for H&M, Shoes: Japan, Necklace: Laura Burnham, Watch: Bulova

Also, I believe this is the first time I am showing off my Comme de Garcons pants, which I utterly adore. I had quite a fight wrangling a pair of these. They sold out in a New York minute when they debuted in H&M, which left me trawling eBay for months trying to get my hands on a pair - correction, to get my hands on a pair that didn't cost a billion bucks. I am pleased to report that with time and perseverance, I was successful, and even snatched them at a reasonable price.

They pants are incredibly comfortable, and very well made of a sturdy fabric - and even have a nice pair of pockets to boot. I have been wearing them like mad, and they have become an invaluable piece of my fashion collection. With their high leg, they are also perfect for rainy days.

What is your favorite wet weather wear?

Had a great weekend! Saturday me and my sister headed out to Williamsburg for an evening of mega-fun and a Bat For Lashes show. First, we had delicious pizza at what I consider the best pizza in Brooklyn, Anna Maria's (their pesto pizza blows my mind). Next, we discovered we had some time to kill before the show, so we grabbed some yummy dessert and tea at this amazing little cafe, whose name escapes me*. I had a fig mascarpone cake and Linda had raspberry mousse - and yes, it was as incredible as it sounds. Then we headed to Spoonbill & Sugartown Books where we snatched up some dirt-cheap used books.

tee: UO, blouse: thrifted, skirt: thrifted, socks: Japan, shoes: O Deer!, necklace: Laura Burnham, cuff: Shoegasm

The show was incredible. Natasha Khan is a force of nature. She wore the cutest black-and-white striped jumper, and spent the entire set dancing the stage, barefoot. She was as haunting and evocative as the album, if not more so. It was simply stunning.

This is my "cozy spring day" apparel. Everything I am wearing is ultra-cozy. The sweatshirt top, the wool leggings, the shoes. I am particularly smitten with the leggings, which I nabbed up from Pixie Market several months ago. The color palette and the geometric design make me feel like I am wearing disco Venetian blinds.

Have you seen my new shoes? They are from DRU NY, and are my new favorite shoes on the planet. They are so cute, and amazingly, obscenely comfortable, with just the right amount of lift. Also, I love how you can just see the subtle indents of the clasps. They are so subtle-eccentric.

Wardrobery: 04/23/09: Opera Wear

Dress: Target; Cardigan: YaYa Aflalo; Necklace: Etsy; Watch: Bulova; Cuff: Shoegasm; Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

This is what I wore to the opera last week. I love the opera, so much so that when I couldn't find anyone interested in coming along with me (opera gets no love these days), I chose to just go by myself. On the bright side, this did result in my acquiring a rather amazing seat for significantly less than the price of the seats around me. Score! The performance was at the Met, and suffice to say, it was fantastic.

The performance I saw was "Das Rheingold," the first opera in Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen," or "The Ring Cycle." The entire story spans across FIVE OPERAS, and is actually considered the inspiration for Tolkein's fantasy classic, "The Lord of the Rings." It is chock-full of dwarves, dragons, gods, nymphs, heros, and beautiful, beautiful music. The first time I watched it I was about seven years old, and my mom let me stay up late for a week to watch it on PBS. It has been my favorite opera ever since.

Though most operas these days require no dress code, I am old-fashioned in the sense that I believe one should dress up a little to visit the opera. As such, I decked myself out in something elegant and refined, with little primitive touches in homeage of the Germanic culture of the opera I was going to see (feathered necklace, cuff, studded shoes). The result was something a little dressy, but casual enough that I could run around at work without feeling overdressed. And comfortable, of course.

Dress: Target; Cardigan: YaYa Aflalo; Necklace: Etsy; Watch: Bulova; Cuff: Shoegasm; Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Any opera fans out there? If so, what is your favorite opera?

Yes, my lazy butt finally dragged out the camera. It occurred to me how much fresh new junk I had accumulated that I had not shown off.

Top: Joyce Leslie, Shorts: Tracy Reese, Leggings: Victoria's Secret, Shoes: Oh Deer!, Necklace: Kenneth J Lane

I am absolutely, positively in LOVE with these shorts, made by Tracy Reese. They by far the nicest shorts I have ever owned. What's not to love? The cerulean hue, the gold embroidery, the studded pockets - they are officially my "fancy pants"!

I am also extremely excited over my newest shoe purchase: these sweet little fellas are made by Oh Deer! I have been lusting after these suckers for the past 6 months, but money was tight, and the price tag was just a bit too much. Then last week, I popped into my favorite shoe store in the city, and discovered they had been reduced to $50! Score!

Once again, I am a sucker for a comfy heel. These suckers are lined with PLAID FLEECE, and I would curl up in them and take a nap if I could. The chunky heel also means that I stand a fair chance of not falling all over myself. I could trip lying down, I really could...

An oldy but a goody: I wore this back all the way in November, but somehow it slipped through the cracks and never got posted. Looking at it, I long for weather that will allow me to wear my sweet little blazer as my sole shell. Though they are calling for weather in the fifties this weekend, so hopefully that day won't be too long in coming.

Top: H&M, Blazer: Thrifted, Belt: Street Vendor, Jeans: e.a.p. Hiroshima, Japan, Boots: Thrifted, Watch: Bulova

Speaking of weather: boy, did we get dumped on. Jersey City got hit with 6-10 inches on Monday, and New York was so snowed under that they cancelled school for the first time in FIVE YEARS. Facing blizzard-y winds and snows, and the chance of being trapped in the city with no means out, I had no choice but to work from home. Hopefully that's the last of the snow this season. Seems like we are getting our just desserts after only having one tiny snowfall last year.

As for the duds: I love love love my little blue blazer. I picked it up back in November in the children's section of a thrift shop. It fits me like a glove: a rather snug glove, as I have now discovered. I accidentally tore open a seam under the armpit last time I wore it. I want to take it to a tailor to repair it, but worry that I just may have a repeat performance next time I wear it.

Any sewers out there know if it is possible to add room under an armpit?

Another week gone by. I thought last week was cold, but somehow it managed to get even COLDER. This has been one hell of a winter. I am counting the days until April, or at least weather in the 40's. THAT is how cold it is - I would consider 45 degrees TROPICAL about now.

Also, this has been affecting my dress. When it is cold, I don't want to dress up: I don't even want to get out of bed. Putting together an outfit seems a work of monumental effort, to summon the wherewithal not to just toss on a down sleeping bag and call it a day.

Still, I have my moments. Like when my new
Mars Co. jeans showed up in the mail. I have been lusting after these jeans for about a month, been sheer bonkers over the color, but agonizing that the pair that was available were a size too small for me. Finally, I said "*uck it" and just got 'em anyway, figuring I'd return them or pass them on to a skinnier, luckier girl if they didn't fit.

I guess I got thinner, or lucky, because they fit like a glove. And I L-O-V-E them. Can't stop wearing them. Want to sleep in 'em. Even inspired me to dress up a bit, though I had to chuck the shoes and throw on an extra cardi because of all the SNOW on the ground. Grumble, grumble.

Wardrobery: 01/30/09 : The Leathering.

Necklace: eBay, Tank: Mango, Top: Thrifted, Leather Pants: Elizabeth & James, Shoes: Bakers, Watch: Bulova

Allo! Hope you had a nice weekend. Mine was spent in a fit of bridesmaid dress-shopping, laundry, and furniture arranging. I am happy to report that the house is looking less and less like a barn, and more like a place one might be inclined to have a spot of tea. Triumph!

Ok, let's not beat around the bush. Yes, those are LEATHER pants. I KNOW.

I have been coveting a pair of leather pants for MONTHS. Except I have 2 problems when it comes to leather pants:

1. I am a dwarf.
2. I am a dwarf with a 9 to 5 job, and generally cannot go running around looking like Axl.

This posed some problems in the procuring leather pants department. Firstly, because unlike denim or cotton, I cannot attack a pair of leather pants with my dainty sewing machine, which means I had to find a pair that could accommodate my wee little legs. And then there was the issue of cut. There are plenty of leather pants on the market right now that are fantastic, but also EXTREMELY tight. Like POISON tight. And as hot as that look is, it's really not for me. As I said, it's already pretty wicked to be bopping around in leather pants - to do so in a pair that are skin tight would make me feel on par with Prince or something.

What's a girl to do? My solution came in the form of two other tiny gals: the Olsen twins. That's right: Elizabeth & James Faithful Cropped Leather Pant. They succeeded in being small enough for a petite gal, with a trouser cut that gave the leather look a bit of casual modesty.

I was hooked. Hooked but worried. I have a leather skirt that can be a bit of a hot sweaty nightmare to wear, and my previous experiences has been that leather is not the most comfortable of materials to sport. However, I took the plunge - and am SO happy I did.

These pants are amazing. They are satin-lined, and sooo comfortable. The leather is buttery soft, a subtle gray-black color that keeps them from being too overwhelming, and through some process the leather has this look I have never seen before. It's almost a marbled effect - not too shiny, with a slight bit of sheen. They are also obviously warm - the perfect pair of pants to wear on these frigid days we have been having in the northeast. I am extremely excited to see how these look with other pieces in my wardrobe.

Just one more reason to love the Olsen twins.

Bit of a wonky week - both my parents were near comatose with the flu last weekend - it seems like everyone in South Jersey is being hit with a whammy of a stomach flu. I hunkered down and hoped for the best - I was a little off Monday, but so far, so good.

My eBay items have arrived! Displayed in these pics are those harem pants I featured in my previous post. I was rather worried about these - the listing had them in a size 12 (about twice my size), and the photo made me worry they were made of some creepy shiny fabric. In fact, after purchasing I began to wonder what exactly I was thinking when I weighed all these possible issues together. But upon arrival I was utterly stoked - they fit perfectly, and the fabric is a lightweight cotton that is not shiny at all. They also have these excellent velcro tabs at the ankle, so the width of the leg opening is adjustable - which opens all sorts of doors as to the kind of footwear I can wear with these. I think I just found myself a spring staple, folks. Just wave my crotch goodbye, and be done with it (bet you weren't expecting to read THAT today).

I have all sorts of incredibly naughty, wonderful things that have also come in, that I am eager to wear once this hideous ice melts. So next week should be interesting.

Yesterday was Fiance Kaboom's birthday! He is 30! Ach! We had a quiet dinner eating obscenely good soul gourmet on Grove St., and then went to a vintage store where I bought him (us) a Rush vinyl. Because if there is one thing we love, it's rock that is nerdy.

Happy Birthday sweetheart. You make every day a birthday.

I have a new boyfriend. It is these pants. Ours is a awkward love affair, I whisper them sweet nothings, they pleat. These are one of the pairs that I snatched up on eBay recently - I was worried they would border on ridiculous, but instead they are positively perfect, though a little thin for these chilly climes. I paired them with my no fail wool leggings, and I was good to go - December be damned!

Also, have I told you about my new grey cashmere sweater? I cannot stop wearing it. It is light as a feather, and warm as a parka. Cashmere, I get it now. I forgive you for being annoying to wash.

Someone got her camera fixed...

Actually, it was fixed weeks ago. However, one annoying thing that happened with the camera break was that the broken camera must have surged and also ruined my memory card. So, I ordered a new card on eBay, but I get that one and that one doesn't work. The company then sends me a replacement, and THAT one doesn't work either. Finally, we realize that the card I ordered wasn't the right on for the camera, and I finally got one that was functional. Add to this madness holidays, a trip to Vermont, and moving, and yeah, no pictures.

Also, I love love love my new cardigans. I picked the first up on a drive-by of Bolton's after an optometrist appointment last week. I bought one in grey, but I loved it so much I rushed back the next day to get the last small they had in black. It's incredibly drapy on the sides, but shortens up in the back so it doesn't feel or look overwhelming. They've been my constant companion/security blankets the past week or so.

The new place is coming along - still an utter disaster, but progressing. Also, I'm all signed up and ready for Fashion Week, which I feel much more prepared for this time around.

O, and I almost forgot - BOUGHT A WEDDING DRESS! More on that later...

Ok, I need to go eat something...someone please mail me a sandwich...

Even better, it arrived in time for me to wear out to my soon-to-be-sister-in-laws's birthday extravaganza Friday night. Not only is it fantastic, but it is so comfy to wear - it feels like I am in my pajamas. I love how it has that vaguely kimono-look, and the cranes on it just give me unending delight. A wonderful new addition to the wardrobe.

With the economic turbulance going on, I think I am not alone in curbing my spending. I find myself returning to eBay and Etsy for the things I need these days, rather than shelling out the big ones in actual stores. And sample sales are right out until the market improves - sorry Vivianne Tam *sniffle*...

Wednesday, 10/29:Tank: Target, Shirt: Thrifted, Skirt: NY Wholesale Shop, Moccasins: Minnetonka, Necklaces: Etsy, Watch: Bulova

Another dependably cheap source of shopping are the NYC street vendors and wholesale shops. Consistently you can find wonderful accessories and garments from them that would cost you three times as much at a regular store. The skirt above is one of those wonderful wear-30-ways wrap skirts - and thanks to a wholesaler not too far from my job, I am amassing a nice little collection of them (this is my second). These are great all year round: in the winter as a maxi-skirt, and during the summer as beach wraps and strapless dresses.

Thursday, 10/30:Sweater: Thrifted, Shorts: Charlotte Russe, Leggings: American Apparel, Moccasins: Minnetonka, Earrings: Lord & Taylor

Since I have been a little under the weather this week, I find myself donning outfits that are comfortable and warm, and this is the perfect example of one such. I love this big, chunky sweater that I picked up at a Goodwill last year - it's hard to see in the photo, but it is flecked with blues and pinks as well. Me and my sister went to the Banksy exhibit last night, so I was pretty glad to be well covered, as it has been freezing in NYC lately. For anyone in NYC, I highly, HIGHLY recommend catching Banksy's Pet Shop exhibit currently installed in the Village - but hurray, tonight is the final night!!

Fiance Kaboom and I were planning on going to a friend's costume party tonight, but between his schoolwork and my slight illness, we're settling for a quiet night in instead. I plan to pack boxes, watch scary movies, and make myself rather ill on candy. Can't really ask for much more...

Hope everyone has a great Halloween!! If you have any pics of your costume, leave them in the comments section, and I'll feature them next week!

Saturday, 10/18:Earrings: Jami Rodriquez, Top: Thrifted Dolce & Gabbana (!!!), Jacket: Thrifted, Jeans: Joyce Leslie, Boots: Jeffrey Campbell, Bracelet: Jami Rodriquez, Watch: Bulova

This is what I wore to the engagement party we had in Astoria this weekend. In hindsight, it was a little pointless for me to get all prettified, as I spent the entire night ensconced in my new, enormously puffy Miss Sixty coat that I grabbed at a sample sale the previous night. And boy, I didn't buy that sucker a moment too soon - it was a chilly evening, in deed, but nothing that a little booze and goulash didn't fix.

Monday, 10/20:Dress: e.a.p., Hiroshima, Tunic: Thrifted, Leggings: American Apparel, Half-Socks: Japan, Shoes: Shoegasm, Belt: Charlotte Russe, Necklace: Erica Weiner, Watch: Bulova

I am still in a swoon over how many people came out to celebrate in the cold with us. To all of you who did, you are amazingly awesome people, and it meant the world to us! Also, I think there is no limit to the amount of perogies I can eat. Man, the only problem with going to the Beer Garden is how badly I crave their perogies for the next month.

Tuesday, 10/21:Top: Thrifted J.Crew, Slacks: John Varvatos for Converse, Boots: Thrifted, Watch: Bulova

Work has been utterly crazy this week - it's all a little hard to explain. It's definitely affected my posting, as this absurdly late wardrobe post should demonstrate. My boss and mentor is leaving the company to pursue his freelance career, and I wish him all the luck in the world, though I am going to miss him terribly. I am so bummed about it that I am having a hard time being happy about the fact that I am being promoted to an art director, but I guess that's the way things are in life - sometimes the thing you desire doesn't come in garb you admire.

Thursday, 10/23:Tunic: eBay, Jeans: Levis Red, Boots: Thrifted, Watch: Bulova

Still, you gotta keep doing your best, right? In the words of the immortal Kurt Vonnegut, "So it goes..." I am going to try to concentrate on the very good things happening in my life, such as the fact that Fiance Kaboom! and I are going to rent a house! That's right. A HOUSE. With FLOORS. And a BACKYARD. I have yearned to live in a house of my own ever since I moved out of my parents' house and renting these shoe boxes they call apartments. It's also going to be so wonderful to have so much space, as our current apartment and the "Shoe Mountain" were definitely beginning to enter the realm of "natural disaster."

Friday, 10/17:Top: Gap, Cardigan: Victoria's Secret, Jeans: Siwy, Shoes: Toyama, Japan, Bracelet: Jami Rodriguez, Watch: Bulova

Speaking of PANTS ;), can you tell I love love love my new Siwy jeans? I have worn them TWICE in the last week. The color, the fit, the comfort: I simply cannot get enough of them. Even if I look like I just arrived from 1984.

Friday, 10/17:Shirt: Joyce Leslie, Sweater: Thrifted, Jeans: Siwy, Shoes: NYC Wholesale shop, Cuff: James the Leatherman, Watch: Bulova

This week has made me understand why the Chinese consider the line "May you live in interesting times" a curse. Let's hope for some less interesting, and more marvelous in the days ahead.

Friday, 10/10:Necklace: made by mom <3, Long Necklace: Gift,Dress: Nostalgia on Etsy , Over the Knee Socks: Japan?, Boots: Miss Sixty

O hi! Have we met? I am a slug.

Friday, 10/10:Necklace: made by mom <3, Long Necklace: Gift,Dress: Nostalgia on Etsy , Over the Knee Socks: Japan?, Boots: Miss Sixty, Cardigan: Victoria's Secret

There was time, about a month ago, when I was not a slug. I would go to yoga, and run on Sundays. I was full of energy, and joie de vive.

But now, I am a slug. A wobbly, lazy slug.

It started innocently enough - a bad week, a late day of work, a missed class. But now we are here, and I have not run or done a downward dog in nigh 30 days. I look at my belly conspiratorially, demand to know what it has done with the sleek muscles that were visible just a few weeks ago. It glares back at me, and rumbles "Hey, YOU are the one that decided chocolate peanut butter ice cream is a suitable daily breakfast treat."

What can I say? I like ice cream.

Tuesday, 10/14:Hat: Kyoto, Japan, Top: H&M, Slacks: Orphan, Necklace: mking43 on Etsy, Cuff: James the Leather Man, Watch: Bulova, Shoes: Joyce Leslie, Socks: Hanes

But this will not do! I have no energy, and all I want to do is snuggle up next to Fiance Kaboom! and watch "Heros" (I am still on the first season, do not ruin it!). So starting now, I am launching the official "Get Back in Shape You Miserable Pudge-Nut" initiative. It will be a rigorous program of getting myself back on track with a vengeance.

I just need to finish that carton of ice cream, so it stops taunting me.

Tuesday, 10/14:Hat: Kyoto, Japan, Top: H&M, Slacks: Orphan, Necklace: mking43 on Etsy, Cuff: James the Leather Man, Watch: Bulova, Shoes: Joyce Leslie, Socks: Hanes

Last night, myself, my sister, and Fiance Kaboom! piled into his car after work, and headed to look at another potential wedding place, at the insistence of my mother. We spent 30 minutes winding around the spindly streets of northern Jersey, to the P----- (names will be omitted, to protect the out-of-date). We arrived in 1974. 1974 was covered in wood paneling, stained glass, marble and ornate woodwork. 1974 smelled like old mothballs. 1974 had ice sculptures, and no natural light. A porn movie could possibly be shot iin 1974, or perhaps a shoddy remake of "The Godfather." I smiled, spoke pleasantly with the host, and spent the tour shooting Fiance Kaboom and and my sister "O HELLS NO" looks from the corner of my eye.

Tunic: Boutique in Philly, Skirt: H&M, Socks: Joyce Leslie, Boots: Pink Studio, Necklace: Bakers, Headband: Drugstore, Cuff: James the Leather Man, Watch: Bulova

Then my parents showed up, and we gorged ourselves on one of the awesomest, most inexpensive and delicious buffets I have ever eaten. I sure as heck won't get married there, but darn, that was some great food. My father ate his way through half the coconut shrimp in the universe, while I made it my mission to eat as many oysters as I could muster.

So the castle is still at the top of the list, though my sister thinks we should keep looking, if only as an excuse to eat more food.

This weekend we are having a little engagement shindig at my favorite beer hall in Astoria. The beer hall is one of my favorite places in New York: a huge, open-air venue, filled with delicious beer, amazing food, and occasional polka. I am in a bit of shock the sheer amount of friends who are coming out to celebrate with us - should be one heck of a night!

Thursday, 10/16:Top: Harajuku, Japan, Skirt: Buffalo Exchange, Leggings: Victoria's Secret, Shoes: Shoegasm, Necklace: Street Vendor, Watch: Bulova, Bangle: sparklinglotusdesign on Etsy

My cat, Haiku, is utterly adorable. He's realized where I stand in the mornings to take my photos. Now, he sits himself up there, and watches me work it, whilst begging for affections. It is rather crippling in its cuteness. He even ingratiated himself into this shot. Little scamp.

Week in Wardrobe: 10/03 - 10/09

Friday, 10/03:Top: Forever 21, Jeans: Express, Jacket: Joyce Leslie, Necklace: Ragtrader on Etsy, Watch: Bulova, Shoes: Shoegasm

Well, it's begun: we have started looking for a place to host the wedding. This past weekend, my mom, sister and Fiance Kaboom piled into a car, and headed out to visit the first place on the potential list: and I think we found a winner! Me and FK totally love it - and though I am not gonna go into detail yet, I will give you one fact: it's a CASTLE. A freaking CASTLE. How does anything compete with that?

Monday, 10/6:Cami: H&M, Sweater: Joyce Leslie, Skirt: Jonathan Saunders for Target, Knit Tights: Sockdreams.com, Moccassins: Minnetonka, Earrings: Jami Rodriguez

Still, my mom is insisting we go take a look at another place not too far from us, but honestly, I think we've found the place. And really, my goal is to have the most stress-free wedding ever invented. If we pick the first place we look at, I consider ourselves incredibly lucky. So we'll see.

On the way home, we stopped at Peddler's Village, which is this great little artists' community not too far from where we looked. We found this amazing leather shop, that was selling all sorts of leather goods at basement prices. Me and Linda both got ourselves some moccasin boots, and I also got myself a $10 leather belt, and this sweet, cheap little black fedora. It is my new favorite accessory, and have been wearing it everywhere.

Tuesday, 10/7:Top: Thrifted, Scarf as Belt: Thrifted, Cardigan: Love Yaya, Dress worn as skirt: Joyce Leslie, Cuff: James the Leather Man, Watch: Bulova, Necklace: Handmade Wooden Pendant from Kyoto, Japan, Boots: Minnetonka from Leather Shop in PA

I also had some online purchases come in this week, that I am head-over-heels for. These Siwy Jeans are going to be my new BFF. The dying process has rendered them almost completely white, creating this pebbly, divine "cloud" effect in the denim. I am a total klutz, and as a general rule I do not wear white pants, but for these beauts I will make a grudging exception.

Wednesday, 10/8:Hat: Leather Shop in Pennsylvania
Shirt: Boutique in Harajuku, Japan, Cardigan: Thrifted, Jeans: Siwy (New!), Boots: eBay, Watch: Bulova, Necklace: Hiroshima Jewelry Store, Japan

I also got this brilliant wolf tee from the etsy vendor, 1Aeon. I have been admiring 1Aeon's apparel for well over a year now, so I am pretty stoked to finally own one for myself. I am a little worried the shirt is too big though - I like my tops loose, but sometimes I worry I end up looking like a bag-lady.

Thursday, 10/9:Top: 1Aeon on Etsy, Skirt: Gift from Mom, Belt: Leather Shop in Pennsylvania, Boots: Seychelles, Watch: Bulova, Cuff: James the Leather Man, Necklace: Ragtrader on Etsy

This is the first weekend in as long as I can remember that I have no plans. I am completely ecstatic. If you need me, I will be in my pajamas, puttering and eating Oreos. And it will be DIVINE.

Thursday, 10/9:Top: 1Aeon on Etsy, Skirt: Gift from Mom, Belt: Leather Shop in Pennsylvania, Boots: Seychelles, Watch: Bulova, Cuff: James the Leather Man. Necklace: Ragtrader on Etsy, Cardigan: Love Yaya, Scarf: Street vendor, Arm Warmers: shop in Himi, Japan

The Next Best Thing

There's nothing more troublesome than not being able to get your hands on something you desperately covet. But rather than hanging my head and dwelling in self-pity, I try to make the best out of the situation: mainly, by finding a good alternative to the things I desire.

The most recent case of this has been 2 particular pair of shoes. The Dries Van Noten patent wedges from 2007, and Gucci's AW08 babouska shoes.

Photo snatched from Nubby Twiglet

The Dries Van Noten wedges are beings of absolutely weird, gorgeous construction. I love how they make the foot look similar to a hoof, how all parts of the shoe just meld into each other to make this strong, solid shape. Integrating the oxofrd lace-up style I have come to love, they also look like a foot support dream. However, as much as I love this shoe, it is a star crossed infatuation, as these shoes have proven completely impossible to find. I have searched around enough to say with authority that there are no more of these shoes left in existence (unless you are Nubby, who I have learned on good authority has been selling her soul in shares to score 2 pairs of these).

The other shoe, the Gucci, is much easier to find, but just totally out of my price range. I absolutely adored Gucci's AW08 collection, with the bohemian-military-pirate look, but the babouska shoe was the particular piece that just completely stole my heart. I love how they resemble ornamental old-world bells or trinkets, but also have that tough, punk edge to them as well.

Suffice to say, I have been keeping my eyes peeled for suitable alternatives to both shoes, and I am pleased to report that I have struck pay dirt. Behold, my next-best-things:

The top shoe is made by Poetic License. I spied these in a shop in the city, and nearly flipped. Ok, they don't completely resemble the Dries, but the molded heel construction is similar enough that I am satisfied, as that is the part of the shoe I truly love. And there are so many things about this shoe that I adore in its own right. The color is a sumptuous, glossy, burgundy-red, with a popping red suede stripe running along the side. They close up with a velcro strap across the top, and are by far the cutest, weirdest mary janes I have ever seen. They are also impossibly comfy to wear.

The Jeffrey Campbell shoes I have taken to calling the "I Can't Believe It's not Gucci." I have been a huge fan of Campbell's shoes for some time, and own several pairs - as a brand, I have come to rely on them as well built, affordable shoes, with fantastic variety of styles. These shoes not only look fantastic, but they are the most comfortable heels I have ever worn. I attribute this to the fact that the shoe itself is constructed much like a sling, and the leather is supple enough that it gives just enough that the entire thing molds to your foot. I cannot generally wear very tall shoes, and I love how these look tall, but due to their platform are actually quite reasonable to walk around in.

I am utterly in love with these shoes, and will be wearing them alot this season. Here are two of the first outfits I whipped together to wear them with...

Thursday, 9/18:Sweater: Thrifted, Shorts: Charlotte Russe, Socks: $1 Store, Shoes: Poetic License, Watch: Bulova

Wednesday, 9/24:Dress: Vintage Shop in Harajuku, Cardigan: Etsy, Belt: Thrifted, Tights: Sockdreams, Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell, Necklace: Gift

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be subsisting on Saltines, as I have blown my budget through the roof...but it was worth it!

Week in Wardrobe: 9/19 - 9/25

Friday, 9/19:Top: Joyce Leslie, Tank: Thrifted Necessary Objects, Jeans: Levi's Red, Shoes: Shoegasm, Necklace: Smart Glass Necklace by Kathleen Plate, Watch: Bulova

OW. It's pouring in and around New York, and on my way to work this morning, I slipped on the wet escalator in the PATH station, and completely spilled out all over the steps. About 8 people ran over to make sure I was ok, which was nice. The cops were really angry that the PATH had left the escalator on in weather like this. Now I feel generally crummy, and my back feels rather bruised. Aw shucks, I am such an accident magnet...

Monday, 9/22:Shirt: Thrifted J.Crew, Tie: Thrifted, Shorts: Thrifted, Tights: Sockdreams, Boots: Sigerson Morrison for Target, Watch: Bulova

Today, is crummy and wet, and I am lounging in my favorite t-shirt and a pair of jeans, longing for better weather that does not require galoshes and waterproofing. My plans for camping this weekend have been utterly crushed by this terrible weather. Fortunately, the alternative of hanging around inside and allowing the world to flood as I putter about and watch "Heros" does not sound half bad. Still, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a climate miracle. At least I can gaze upon the outfits I got to wear this week for inspiration.

Tuesday, 9/23:Top: Gap, Blazer: Thrifted, Jeans: Thrifted, Boots: Miss Sixty

Last week, I was INCREDIBLY naughty, and went on a bit of a shoe-buying binge (because, you know, the thing I desperately need more of is SHOES *eye-roll*). I have effectively blown my budget until November (eek!), but I regret nothing, as I am totally in love with the kicks I scored: a pair of amazing wedges and Gucci knock-offs. I will be showing them off in all their glory for you come Monday.

Thursday, 9/25:Shirt: Rainbow, Cardigan: Gap, Long Cardigan: Yaya Aflalo, Trousers: H&M, Belt: Charlotte Russe, Socks: Thrifted, Boots: Ebay, Watch Bulova

I am tired and grumpy, and I am blaming the weather. I will now go get some tea, and hope it's rejuvenative powers can get me out of this funk. O, to be sleeping...

Week in Wardrobe: 9/12 - 9/17

Friday, 9/12:Sweater: Thrifted, Vest: Thrifted, Skirt: Gap, Shoes: Target, Watch: Bulova

Well, it finally happened - I am dressing for fall. I have to say, it's been pretty great. The weather in New York has been wonderful - full of cool breezes and a slight, refreshing chill in the air on gray and yellow mornings. I have been having a world of fun rummaging through my closet, digging out all my favorite sweaters and tights and cozy things.

Saturday, 9/14:Top: Victoria's Secret, Shorts: H&M, Shoes: Wholesale shop in NYC, Belt: Thrifted, Scarf: Joyce Leslie, Watch: Bulova

On Saturday, I hopped over to Gala and Nubby's Birthday Party in Central Park, and enjoyed cupcakes, warm weather, and wonderful conversation with awesome girls. It was quite a warm day, so I stuck to shorts and high hair. Fiance Kaboom! said I looked like a Bond villain, which simply delighted me. It's always a pleasure to meet with fellow writers and artists whose work I respect. Of course, I am a complete dunderhead, and was so wrapped up in enjoying myself and didn't take too many pics. Still, I'll be posting some shortly. Between Fashion Week and all the trimmings, I am still up to my ears in reviews and articles to entertain you with, my fine readers.

Monday, 9/15:Dress: Boutique in Harajuku, Vest: Thrifted, Necklace: Street Vendor, Cuff: James the Leather man, Watch: Bulova, Shoes: Calvin Klein, Bag: Micheal Kors

On the way back from the party, I took a detour over to Target's Bullseye Bodega. I had some slight reservations about going, as I had heard mixed reviews about the goods and the crowds, but I guess I got lucky, as when I went their really weren't too many visitor's, and still some pretty rad stuff available.

Tuesday, 9/16:Cardigan: Love Yaya, Tunic: Zara (Buffalo Exchange), Pants: Converse for Target, Shoes: Sigerson Morrison for Target, Watch: Bulova

I ended up getting three things: a Jonathan Saunders skirt decked out in his signature colorful splatters, a pair of tuxedo trousers made by Converse, and super cute suede Sigerson Morrison booties (I am wearing the trousers and booties in the pick above). I wore the shoes on Tuesday, and was shocked by how comfortable they were for heels - it felt like I was running about in sneakers all day. Definitely going to wear these out.

Wednesday, 9/17:Cardigan: Love Yaya, Shirt: Thrifted J.Crew, Cami: J.Crew, Skirt: Thrifted, Boots: Thrifted, Necklace: Erica Weiner, Belt: Vintage Shop in Harajuku

The cool weather has also allowed me to finally start wearing the AMAZING long cardigan I snatched up at the Yaya Aflalo sample sale I went to a month or so ago (worn above). I can't tell you how much I love this thing: I is incredibly cozy and comfy, and I felt very lucky to have it when everyone started complaining the office was getting chilly (my office may as well have no walls, it is so affected by the weather). I am a bit of a dwarf height-wise - so it's nice that the cardigan is long, but doesn't look overwhelming. I am going to be wearing this ALOT this season!

Also, this Wednesday I went to the Green Gallery Eco Press Showcase, which spotlighted designers who create fashion from environmentally sustainable materials. I was really blown away by much of the stuff there, and the inventiveness and talent of the designers to create remarkable things from bamboo, tires, old billboards and beer bottles, just to name a few.

As I said before, I have looooads of interesting posts coming up about fashion shows, events, and amazing designers, so stick around, it should be pretty interesting around here!

Week in Wardrobe: NYC FASHION WEEK!

It was the best of times, it was the...best of times!! Holy smokes, what a week. The outfits, the models, the smoozing..it lived up to everything I imagined it would be.

The most asked question I got from friends and acquaintances was, "What are you wearing?" Good question! If there is ever a reason to get dressed up, Fashion Week is certainly the reason. It was actually a very fun seeing what I could come up with, especially since you want to coordinate your outfit with the show.

Over the next week, I will be posting extensively about all the shows I went to, the people I met, my reviews and favorites. But for now, here is a sneak peek at what I wore to the shows!

Week in Wardrobe: 8/28 - 9/4

Friday, 8/28:Top: Etsy Headquarters, Hoodie: Joyce Leslie?, Skirt: Yaya Aflalo, Short Necklace: Erica Weiner, Long Necklace: Navajo Dreamcatcher, Boots: Thrifted, Cuff: James the Leatherman, Watch: Bulova

I finally got to wear the amazing skirt I picked up at the Yaya Aflalo sample sale last week. I am utterly in love with the thing, and pics don't do it nearly enough justice. The fabric is sheer and diaphanous, and moves like a breeze when I walk. And the colors pop like crazy - some might consider it bordering on garish, but I can't get enough of it.

Yesterday I picked up my press credentials for Fashion Week! Tomorrow I will be attending my first runway show: Rubin Singer SS09 collection. Is it bad I still have no idea what I am going to wear? Woops! Anyway, full report coming, of course. It should be a pretty interesting week in these parts.

Tuesday, 9/2:Top: Gap, Skirt: Chaus, thrifted, Sandals: thrifted, Cuff: James the Leatherman, Watch: Bulova

Other fun things of note this week include: watching tennis in Madison Park (and eating at the Shake Shack...Mmmmmm), manicure/pedicures with the ladies, finally reading "Twilight" (it lives up to the hype - get on it NOW people!), going to yoga after a 3 week hiatus (this weekend the word will be "SORE"), finally having a somewhat clean apartment (much thanks to Fiance Kaboom for his vacuuming magic).

I'd also like to send out a very special welcome back to Gala, who has returned to New York. The city shines a little brighter when she's in it ;)

Thursday, 9/4:Dress: H&M, Skirt: Gap, Vest: John Varvatos for Converse, Sandals: Gap, Necklace: Navajo Dreamcatcher, Watch: Bulova

Some weeks just leave me feeling very lucky for all the wonderful things and people in my life. Between work, friends and Fiance Kaboom, a girl couldn't ask for more.

Week in Wardrobe: 8/22-8/28

Nutty little week on this front: some big projects in the works both at work and outside of it. Hopefully I'll be able to discuss both soon.

In the meantime, I am busting out some of my favorite pieces, for that one last wear before the chilly climate comes around the corner. O summer, how shall I miss thee! Fortunately, I have some nice little gems that I am eager to wear, so it's not all bad.

I went to two fantastic sample sales this week: John Varvatos and Yaya Aflalo. I snagged some amazing pieces at both, which I will be featuring hopefully sometime next week. However, this week you get a sneak peek at the amazing sequined John Varvatos vest I snagged - I think I am going to start living in the thing. More sequins please!!!

What a week! My birthday was yesterday - but I feel like the entire week has been a celebration. This past weekend, my sister and I had a joint birthday/homecoming party in South Jersey that was UNBELIEVABLE. I can't believe how many friends and family came out - it was such a wonderful day. Yesterday I was treated to a cake at work, and enjoyed yummy cupcakes at my bookclub. If that wasn't enough, tonight Boyfriend Kaboom! and I are headed down to the Delaware shore with some friends, for a relaxing weekend on the beach. Talk about an excellent week!

I also received some amazing new treats for my birthday, which I will showing in detail soon. But you do get a peek at the amazing gift I treated myself to - a stunning Micheal Kors handbag!! I am utterly in love with the thing, and will give a full report soon.

I also squeezed in an appointment with my amazing hairdresser this weekend - these two pictures show the before and after state of my hair. I desperately needed that cut!

Week in Wardrobe: 8/11 - 8/14

Due to a burn on my foot (long story - will explain later) - I have had to be very careful with the kind of footwear I have worn this week. Lots of closed shoes. My yoga teacher's eyes bugged out of his head when I showed up last night bandaged and ready to bend!

We are having me and my sister's joint birthday party/welcome home party at the folks' house this weekend. I can't wait to lounge around the pool and eat barbecue, though swimming is definitely brought into question, with the bad foot and all. Le sigh...

Week in Wardrobe: 8/05-8/08

I can't even put into words how busy I have been this week. Between work, dinner parties, freelance work, mandatory bowling (long story) and the arrival of my sister, I feel like I head is going to fall off my neck and spin off into the stratosphere. I'm quite happy in the madness though - I'd always rather be busy than bored. Dressing up honestly helps me through the chaos - I feel so much more secure and in a good mood when I am wearing something I like.
