My Daily Covet: Frustration Distraction...

Ok, so remember that little memory card issue I mentioned on Friday? Turns out it's a CAMERA issue. I am sad to report my sweet little SLR is currently in the shop getting a checkup. Get well cards can be forwarded to me. I am just hoping the repairs are completed sooner rather than later, as the guy at Best Buy used the word "weeks." Gosh darn it.

Suffice to say, this entire busted camera business has me a mite bit grumpy. However, I've found nothing soothes a bad mood than gazing upon items I am totally lusting after. Here are just a few items I have been getting all hot and bothered over...

1. Mike and Chris Chandler Anthracite Leather Jacket: I currently own three (that's right, THREE)leather jackets, so I certainly do not need another. However, this jacket from Mike and Chris has been cajoling me otherwise.

2. Louise Goldin Leggings: Again, very hard to rationalize a $200 legging purchase. But, GEOMETRY!!!

3. Farylrobin Sable Leather Bootie: Farylrobin is quickly climbing the ranks to become my favorite mid-level shoe manufacturers. I also am utterly convinced these absurdly adorable black heels will grant the wearer the ability to fly.

4. Luchadores VS. Ninja Tee: I am utterly crippled by this image of cute little ninjas and be-masked luchadores beating the ever-living crud out of one another. I am not generally a funny t-shirt wearer, which is why I am hoping against hope that Threadless selects this design to become a poster. He's hitting the ninja with a CACTUS, for crying out loud!

5. Wode Perfume by Boudicca: Check this out: It comes in a spray can, like spray paint. When you spray the perfume on you, it stains everywhere it touches a vibrant indigo. Right now you are thinking, "Ok, that sounds kind of horrible." Not so, because moments after you spray it on, it DISAPPEARS. Like DAVID COPPERFIELD. Remember when your mom told you there was no such thing as magic? WRONG.

(Susie Bubble gives a great review of the stuff here).

6.Galliano Boot Pump in Black: Speaking of magic, the designs on these gorgeous Galliano heels remind me of alchemical symbols and hex signs. They are witchy and Fifth Avenue at the same time. If someone would buy them for me, that would also be magical.

7.Knit Dress: Shop Curious has this beautiful, tactile, utterly cozy, one-of-a-kind knit dress available for purchase on their site. I keep wondering if it was knit by hand. Being a rather poor knitter myself, the prospect kind of makes my brain hurt.

8.AKS New York Winged Blouse: I have this thing with moths - I kind of love them. All those girls that get all worked up about butterflies can just bite me - moths are so-much more homespun and beautiful in my opinion. This blouse's sleeves remind me of moths wings, and that kind of takes my breath away.

What are you coveting?

My Daily Covet - Etsy Style

Considering my recent piece regarding couture, I thought it would only be appropriate to dedicate a Daily Covet to the veritable cornucopia of craft and style, Etsy.com. By far the greatest asset of Etsy as a fashion destination is the diversity of wonderful clothing available for rather decent prices, for the most part. Also, the tight-knit community and transparency of the marketplace allows for transactions that are personal, fast and friendly. The result is owning a product you can feel proud of, for both it as an object, and the method it was acquired: the ideal shopping situation.

I have a soft spot in my heart for vintage: I love owning a piece that is utterly unique, clothes that have a personality and a history beyond my own life. The following are a few of the pieces I have recently stumbled upon on Etsy that have particularly caught my interest.

1. Awesome Vintage Shag Sweater; leasvintage

2. Vintage Sarah Coventry Brooch Creamy White with Gold and Grey Accents; SweetWhimsyVintage

3. navy and white saddle shoes - size 8; sparrowvintage

4. Vintage 9 West Leather Ankle Boots Size 8.5; easystreetvintage

1. green VINTAGE -irish- wool hat; thevintagecloset

2. Vintage 1970's Tatum boots. Boho knee high brazilian leather riding boots with buckles; BlackSwanVintage

3. Vintage cropped fitted black leather jacket; ramonawest

4. Vintage CORO Silvertone Chunky Bracelet - SHINY and BRIGHT; theturniptruck

My Daily Covet: Economic Rebellion

So the economy has gone belly-up. I keep shaking my head - it seems like my generation can't get a break. First, we are told we'll never be as financially sound as our parents, will never be able to afford the homes many of us grew up in. There was a brief moment when it seemed like the tide would be turning in our favor - with the housing market dropping, the potential to actually own a home started to look like a possibility. But of course, now the stocks are a nightmare, and who can say if and when the housing market will ever start going back up again? And when the financial troubles are not only stateside, you know that you have to be careful.

Suffice to say, with our financial futures so up in the air, I and several other bloggers have taken to curbing our spending. KOS is making a hella lot of fantastic DIY projects (I want to eat up her crochet leggings with a spoon), and even dear Susie is warning about heavy spending.

Well, if I can't buy anything, at least i can look. These pieces have me wishing I had a Swiss bank account - but who knows, maybe that would even go belly-up these days.

1. Azzedine Alaia, Bronze eyelet gloves: It's a simple fact of life that grommets make everything look awesome.

2. Piumelli, Long leather gloves: My hands turn into crocodiles come the cold weather, and the only solution I have found is wearing authentic leather gloves. I am fantasizing about these paired with half-sleeve coats and short sleeve sweaters, and practically weeping with desire.

3. Dries Van Noten, Multi-strap sandal: I see these as the all-weather sandal - perfect on bare legs for the summer, or paired with warm knit stockings for the colder months. The alternating strap widths are subtle but brilliant, just like most of Dries' stuff.

4. Azzedine Alaia, Pony skin platform shoes: I am actually glad I cannot afford these, as they save me from one heck of an ethical dilemma: My love of ponys conflicting with my reservations about wearing one!

5. Christian Louboutin, Flannel tote bag: One of my favorite fashion tricks is taking a rather homespun material and transforming it into something of the utmost elegance - which I feel Louboutin accomplishes splendidly with basic gray flannel in this bag. It is so structured and proper, it makes me think of teatime and brunches on chill winter days.

6. Marni, Alpaca fur bag: This Marni bag is the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Louboutin - so free and wild and bohemian, but still retains a load of class and charm. Also, that blue makes me feel like dancing, particularly with a bag that is reminiscent of a muppet.

1. Alexander McQueen, Fox collar cardigan: O, Alexander, will you ever make something I don't utterly love? I love how McQueen can take the simplest items, like a cardigan, and add such a powerful sense of drama without crossing into melodrama. I could crawl into this thing in October, and not emerge until April.

2. Rick Owens, Long wedged boot: These are not boots. They are an object of worship. The shape, the fins, the HEEL, the HEIGHT: these are simply the most AMAZING boots I have ever seen. The kind of boots you rob a bank for. But then get caught, because you blogged about said robbery. Darn it...

3. Maison Martin Margiela, Python ankle boot: Everyone needs a beautiful boot to see them through the winter (or in my case, 10 beautiful boots;). These python boots would be gorgeous with a pair of jeans, the snazziest dress, a paper bag. My only fear would be they are so lovely, I would hate to make them touch the ground.

4. Zagliani, Large puffy painted python bag: Since we are already on the subject of pythons, this handbag is so brilliantly stunning it brings animal print to an entire new level. In theory, I would immediately think this bag would be gaudy, but it's not at all, it's just beautiful and powerful. Also, I like to imagine a shiny golden python, slithering its way through some amazon jungle far away...

5. Giambattista Valli, Ruffle front dress: Things I love: muted tones, gathered fabric, relaxed ruffles, this dress.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go weep over my checkbook.

My Daily Covet: Beyond the Pale...

My best friend, Pat, used to tell me how he secretly sometimes dreamed of just dressing in white. I sometimes share a similar sentiment with the idea of surrounding myself with creams and whites.

1. 2houra
I am completely smitten with this graffiti artist's remarkable collection of animal-headed anthro-morphs. It's almost like Osiris, Isis and the gang went hipster.

2. Jorge Morales Fringe Bracelet
Consider me the first one to jump on the "everything fringed is awesome" bandwagon. This bracelet is so elegant, yet so utterly now now now.

3. Mara Hoffman Long Sleeve Wrap Sweater
Gloves? Check. Hat? Check. Oatmeal sweater with a cloudy Rorschach on the back? CHECK.

4. Mayle Tati Grand Tote
I do not think there could ever be enough houndstooth in this world to satisfy me. Me and my CD were just discussing how cheated ladies generally are of this wonderful pattern. This tote could find a happy little place in my life.

5. Girl in White by Altamira
I just discovered this new blog-photographer, and I am just eating it up with a spoon. This shot in particular makes me never want to wear anything that fits ever again.

6. Globe Pant by Kirrily Johnston
I want these like hot blueberry pancakes. My crotch is supposed to be near my knees, its the natural way of things.

7. Bandage Skirt
Dang - Barney's Co-op apparently yanked the link to this before I could post it, but nonetheless, the soft, gauzy layers of fabric over the no-nonsense black makes me a little week in the knees.

8. Wobble Chess Set
When I lived in Philly, I one of my favorite pastimes was going to the dive punk coffee shop down the street, playing chess and smoking cigarettes for hours. I no longer smoke, which is good, and I no longer play chess, which is rather not good. I think if I had this ultra-sexy chess set on my coffee table, I could be encouraged to play a lot more.

Finally, for a little video love: if you don't know Marnie Stern, you have been living your life with a gaping void in your soul. Her hot licks and surreal lyrics place me smack dab in my happy place. Enjoy...

My Daily Covet - New & Improved!

Trying something a little different this time with the Daily Covet. It occurred to me, "Hey, why don't I show MORE THAN ONE thing at a time?" - and then promptly smacked myself for not thinking it up before. Therefore, I present to you the new-and-improved Daily Covet, replete with NUMBERS....Oooooooooo...

1. Hel Looks: Anni
This girl's ability to mix patterns is spot on.

2. Tibi - El Dorado High Neck Dress
The cut, the bold pattern, the color - there is nothing that I do not adore about this dress.

3. "Hearts Wallow" by Insa
Amazing graffiti artist, Insa, takes the universal heart into to the next level with this gorgeous piece of art.

4. tokidoki Meletta Mimobot
I keep fantasizing about keeping this little monkey in my purse for file transport emergencies. It cracks me up how grumpy he is!

5. Tarina Tarantino X kidrobot - Labbit Ring on Beaded Band (White w/ Mustache)
Mustaches? Bunnies? Jewelry? Hell yes.

6. Tory Burch Canvas Lux T Tote
More big, bold patterns, please. This thing is like hot geometry.

7. ID Browns 0304355
I am shocked and delighted by the amount of oxfords available this season, particularly since I was searching like crazy for them just a few months ago. This pair are especially aces.

8. VPL Cashmere Poncho
One of my favorite things about fall is being able to bust out the giant chunky sweaters. This one would make a posh addition to any collection.

Also, this video is simply dazzling. It's like DIY crafts meet cooking, and I cannot get enough of it...

My Daily Covet: BambooZoo Mini Figures

Kidrobot is just awesome. It's one of those companies that makes me so damn proud of my generation: a company that says "We are grazing thirty, and still we love toys, because we are AWESOME."

I am completely head-over-heels for their current collection: BambooZoo. Brought to life by British artists, Peskimo (David + Jodie), BambooZoo is full of mindblowingly adorable little 3 inch creatures, that will probably make your eyeballs melt from cuteness.

Kid Robot's BambooZoo Mini Series

Now, I just need to figure out a way to fit these all in my mouth.

My Daily Covet (Claimed!): LG enV Mobile Phone

Ever since my pal Sue got the LG enV, I have been obsessively desiring it. She wouldn't even let me hold it anymore because I was drooling over it so much. But I was having an internal conundrum about purchasing it, since it was a wee bit out of my phone budget. I had since resigned myself to trying to figure out how I would continue to exist without possessing this sweet little piece of technology.

This weekend some plans got canceled, and I found myself stuck on 6th Avenue with not a darn thing to do. So I walked into the nearest Verizon store to browse my other upgrade possibilities. Lo and behold, my dear little phone was on sale! Suddenly the phone I coveted so was quite suddenly in my price range. Score!

Here's the enV in all its grandeur:

Why this phone rules:

The Color: it is by far the most colorful phone in Verizon's offerings, available in a popping orange, and lush olive, and a cool silver (I got the olive one).

Keypad Goodness: The phone flips open to reveal a full alpha-numeric keypad, with calendar capabilities. I have since started texting like an insane person.

The Camera: The phone contains a 2.0 megapixel camera, complete with autfocus and flash. Flip the phone, and suddenly you have a very competent camera

The Size: My last phone was a Rzr, and taught me that there is such a thing as a phone that's too small. The thing was so light and flimsy, I was constantly dropping it, where it would immediately shatter into 18 pieces all over the floor. The enV has quite a bit of bulk to it, and I honestly couldn't be happier. It's nice to have a phone that seems like it can take a beating.

Now, if you need me, I'll be texting everyone in my contacts list my grocery list. Just 'cause.

My Daily Covet: Pixel Sofa by Cristian Zuzunaga

There are two things I love: color and pixels. Therefore, it's practically mandatory for me to love this piece of furniture :

Pixel Couch by Cristian Zuzunaga

I want to point out how clever Cristian Zuzunaga was in the design of this sofa. Notice how the two seat cushions are not symmetrical. Had they been I think this couch would lose a lot of its charm. Through this, and by creating a gap between the cushions for the eye to rest, he manages to successfully break out of the grid he creates through using such a boxy fabric. It makes me love it all the more.

My Daily Covet (Claimed!):
Delia's Solid Skirted One-Piece

Apparently, one-piece bathing suits are made from unicorn hair, which is the only rational explanation I’ve come up with as to why every one I look at costs about a thousand dollars. However, I have finally triumphed! I recently picked up this little number from Delias.com, which rang in at a lovely 40 chicken bones:

Here are the things that are awesome about this suit:

  • BLACK. Never goes out of style

  • If black isn’t your thang, they also have this in an edible candy apple red heart pattern:

  • the neck strap is removable, so one can get a sweet tan but not lose the suit when you decide to take a dip.

  • The SCRUNCHING. This suit is double lined with an outer scrunching layer of suit-stuff, which means the bottom frill is actually length-adjustable. The above image has the fringe worn rather high, but when I tried it on I was delighted to discover I could pull it all the way over my butt for a totally retro-looking little skirt-suit. (Like this, but without the torpedo-boobies):

  • That’s totally what's it's like when I am at the beach.

Though they don’t have it for this suit, Delia’s also offers many of their other one-piece’s in different trunk lengths, which is a dream-come-true for a petite little dwarf like myself.

Now I am counting the days until I can get some sand in my butt…

    my daily covet:
Frye Reese Low Ankle Strap in Black

With warmer climes just a few weeks away, a young girl's' thoughts often turn to that special something: shoes.

Ever since the new swing in fashion occurred for gravity-defying, chunky heels (thanks MK), I have been driving myself crazy trying to find a chunky high shoe that I could actually walk in. And sadly, now that I have found the shoe, I'll be damned if I can find it anywhere.

O Frye Reese, how I love thee, let me count the ways:
